Launch webinar: Protective and absorbant hygiene products (generation 7.0)
Join our Nordic launch webinar on 7 November 2025 and learn more about the application process and the new requirements for Nordic Swan Ecolabel hygiene products
We will present the new criteria, explain how they differ from the current requirements, and explain how you get started with the application process.
The product group includes disposable hygiene products and reusable menstrual cups, for both consumer and professional use. The Nordic Swan Ecolabel can be applied, for example, for diapers for babies, incontinence care products, pads, tampons, cotton swabs, and gowns and covers used in health care.
Whats new in generation 7.0.?
Below you will find an excerpt from the headlines in the new generation of criteria for Nordic Swan Ecolabel protective and absorbant hygiene products, which will be reviewed in the webinar.
The Nordic Swan Ecolabel requirements for protective and absorbant hygiene products include:

- Fluff pulp must be manufactured in a climate and energy efficient way. Fossil oil and coal are not allowed in production.
- Strict limits on emissions to air and water from fluff pulp and regenerated cellulose – and from manufacturing of reusable menstrual cups.
- Introduction of biobased or recycled plastics – at least 1-2% - to replace virgin fossil-based plastic in certain products, such as children’s diapers, incontinence care and menstrual products.
- Biobased plastic must be made from traceable, responsible sourced renewable raw materials – and no palm oil, including PFAD or genetically modified (GMO) plants are allowed.
- Use of minimum of 35% recycled plastic in plastic packaging.
- Requirements concerning chemicals that are hazardous to health and harmful to the environment.
- Children´s diapers, incontinence care products and menstrual products must be assessed for impurities.
